Having met hundreds and hundreds of business owners, MD's and Directors over the 26 years i have been doing this. Many of which tell me they have no need for training themselves or staff because they know all about their particular business. Fat lot of good! product knowledge is great but what about your character, how do you come over to potential customers and clients? How many people have you met that are in business and are grumpy, bland, dull, rude and off? Look at people like solicitors, accountants and other so called professionals - lots of product knowledge (possibly) but rubbish at delivering face to face or on the telephone.
Don't end up like them...
If you are a professional, want the best for your business then you would ensure that staff are given the tools to do the job.
I recall in Poole - Dorset, when i asked an MD about the new girl that started on Monday, he replied "I gave her the Yellow Pages and told her to get on with it".
